ASciNA and Technische Universität Wien invite you to our next Virtual Talk and Panel Discussion on February 20, 2025.
The January wildfires wreaked havoc on Los Angeles. Driven by hurricane-force winds, fire storms quickly reduced entire sections of the city to smoldering rubble. The destruction has shocked the community and those who witnessed the devastation from afar. With over 16,000 structures burnt, thousands more damaged, countless people displaced, and communities ripped apart, the road to recovery is only just beginning.
As catastrophic as this was, it is by no means unique. Worldwide, extreme weather events have become our new normal: wild fires where they had barely or not existed before, hurricanes that carry water far into the interior, tornadoes that lay waste to vast stretches of land, hail large enough to puncture roofs and total cars, and rains that flood entire regions. Climate change is here at last.
But this is also an opportunity for visionary thinking! How do we (re)build? Where do we (re)build? How do we think about our living spaces and the environment? What does it mean to design for climate change?
